Significantly lowering push forces is one way we solve the biggest material handling challenges.

When it comes to moving heavy loads, such as carts filled with construction parts, equipment, components, you name it; Workers often must exert a significant amount of force to get the job done. This continuous application of strength can lead to fatigue, strain, and even injury over time. And where there are injuries, workman’s comp follows, along with lost production time, etc. That’s why it’s important to have the right equipment to make the job easier and safer. That is where Caster Concepts comes in.

The Situation

One such challenge that a construction company faced was the difficulty in moving their carts loaded with heavy vehicle axles. Push/pull forces on these carts were measuring more than 80 pounds, which was not only strenuous but also a potential hazard leading to compensation costs and downtime. The construction company turned to Caster Concepts for assistance.

Caster Concepts has helped many of the company’s facilities in the past, and they were confident that we could find a solution to this problem. We started by talking with the construction company’s safety team to understand their needs and challenges. We also evaluated the application with the help of CCI’s engineers to determine the best course of action. After careful consideration, we recommended the use of ergonomic casters with the Twergo wheel.

The Solution

The ergonomic caster that was chosen was the 57 series and our patented Twergo® wheel. Twergo features a two-in-one wheel design that allows for maximum maneuverability and rollability. The wheel has a rounded design, which minimizes contact with the floor for less resistance. Additionally, the individual moving wheels and swivel section allow the caster to move in alternate directions with ease, further reducing the amount of force needed to move the carts.

The construction company eagerly went forward with this solution. The new casters were installed on the carts, and the workers immediately noticed a difference. The push/pull forces required to move the carts were reduced from more than 80 lbs. push force to 40 lbs. push force. A reduction of more than 50%! This not only made the job easier and safer for the workers but also increased their productivity.

Vertical integration allows for higher levels of customization.

The use of ergonomic casters with the Twergo wheel is just one example of how Caster Concepts helps businesses improve their material handling processes with customized solutions.  Being vertically integrated allows levels of customization second to none in the industry. The result is better employee working conditions and better productivity and savings for the company.

In addition to the Twergo wheel, Caster Concepts offers a wide range of other caster and wheel options to suit different applications. For example, our heavy-duty casters handle weights of up to 50,000 pounds, as well as casters with shock-absorbing features that are ideal for transporting delicate items. For anything material handling, think Caster Concepts.
