Super Heavy Duty Casters

For high-capacity casters designed to handle loads of 17,000 pounds up to 50,000 lbs. (we've even built casters that can carry 100,000 lbs.) look to the Super Heavy Duty line of casters from Caster Concepts.

When considering a super heavy-duty caster, there are a few considerations besides the typical ones (flooring, environment, towing speeds, duty cycle, etc.) to keep in mind to handle this kind of weight.

The first is the bearing you will need. Heavier loads typically require a tapered bearing compared to a ball bearing or a roller bearing. Tapered bearings allow for the protection of excessive side thrust loads.

Another consideration is whether you should include leg ties in your configuration. Leg ties offer extra stability with heavier loads, especially in transportation where there is vibration.

Kingpin or Kingpinless caster? With these weight capacities, we recommend a kingpinless caster. The main advantage of a kingpinless caster is that a kingpin industrial caster is susceptible to shearing, while a kingpinless heavy duty caster is not.

Heavier loads also require larger industrial caster wheels to support the weight. The drawback is, of course, increased overhead height on the caster-configured cart. To remedy this, a dual wheel with a smaller diameter can accommodate the weight and keep the height to a minimum.

An excellent example of our Super Heavy Duty Casters is our 99 Series industrial caster – which can range from 10 to 22 inches in diameter and is available in single- or dual-wheel configurations. The 99 series features a dual load race design, which assures smooth rotation of the caster, and superior load capacity on any surface and under the most extreme weight conditions.

Fully customizable to meet any need, preference, or specification, you'll find the 99 Series in robust applications such as die handling, marine and automotive, as well as aerospace and aircraft ground support equipment.

To help you through the decision process, use the Find Your Caster menu to help you define which caster is right for your application. You can shop our selection of casters by material, wheel type, top plate, weight, and wheel diameter.
