Powered Flange Track Wheels Keep Project from Going Off the Rails.

Situation:

A manufacturer of rail cars contracted a material handling manufacturing firm to create a rail car carrier. The carrier was needed to move the heavy 150,000 lb. rail cars through the manufacturing process. Each wheel on the carrier had to carry 17,500 lbs. and roll freely. In addition, each carrier required one set of wheels to be motor powered. It was quickly determined that the material handling manufacturer did not have the ability to create a solution for their client. At this point, they turned to Caster Concepts to find a solution to keep the client’s job moving.

Solution:

The Caster Concepts sales and engineering teams worked with the customer to design and build solid steel single flange wheels on a stub axle. The axle/wheel assembly was mounted between pillow blocks for increased bearing capacity and alignment. The manufacturer was able to use these new assemblies on their client’s larger project.
