Answering questions about when to use a dual wheel caster.

While the benefits of using a dual wheel caster is a common question we get asked, the answer is not just one size fits all. It is really 100% specific to your needs. Of course, going with a dual wheel can increase your load capacity. And in some cases, this determines whether you need a dual wheel caster. But many different applications may or may not need a multiple wheel caster.

One of the primary considerations when deciding is weight. If you cannot reach your capacity needs with a single wheel caster, dual wheel casters can save the day. For example, instead of using a single large wheel that can handle 3000lbs, you could have two smaller wheels that support 2500 lbs. each, giving you a 5000 lb. weight limit for that particular set of casters.

Height or load restrictions.

Another reason for this type of caster is that you want to keep the caster as low as possible due to height restrictions. If this is an issue you are facing, and you cannot meet your load with a single wheel caster, this is a good time to investigate dual wheel casters. A dual wheel caster can typically reduce the height of a cart by around 30%

Do you have specific floor loading requirements? This is also another primary determination if this type of caster will be what you need. Spread that weight out on the floor!

Improving push-pull force

When thinking about a dual wheel caster, consider the following questions. If you answer yes to one or more, using a dual-wheel caster may be a good solution.

Ultimately, you may need to have a conversation with a specialist when deciding what caster to go with. But in general, I hope this gives you a better idea of when and where to think about the benefits of dual wheel casters.
