ALBION, Mich. (January 1, 2008) – Local manufacturing business, Caster Concepts, Inc. memorializes founder Richard H. Dobbins through the establishment of the Manufacturing Education Fund at the Albion Community Foundation. Richard “Dick” Dobbins was Vice President of Manufacturing at Albion Malleable. He later became President of Albion Industries and worked there until he retired in 1987.

Upon his retirement, Dick founded Caster Concepts where he remained involved until his death. He graduated from St. Peter and Paul Academy in Ionia and attended Michigan State College where he received a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He later attended the Advanced Business Program at Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration.

This isn’t the first time Caster Concepts, Inc. has stepped forward to help improve the quality of life in the greater Albion area. Caster Concepts, Inc. was a leader in the Victory Park playground build, was instrumental in the Swinging at the Shell summer concert series, and it’s employees continue to be top givers to the United Way annual campaign, just to name a few.

“Albion is fortunate to have Caster Concepts, Inc. as one of our corporate citizens. They are a major employer in this area, and they’ve also served as stewards, setting the pace for other businesses in our community. The Foundation is glad to provide the expert assistance that will help the Manufacturing Education Fund support economic growth in our community,” said Albion Community Foundation Executive Director, Elizabeth Schultheiss.

Because Caster Concepts, Inc. established a Donor Advised Fund with its gift, the company will make regular recommendations on how the fund is used, working with the community foundation’s professional grantmaking staff to target areas of community need within the funds field of interest.

For information on contributing to the fund, contact Elizabeth Schultheiss at 517-629-8838 or at www.albionfoundation.org. Contributions to the Fund are eligible for the State of Michigan Tax Credit for Community Foundations. The law permits a taxpayer to reduce Michigan income tax liability by a credit of 50 percent of the amount contributed to a community foundation, subject to a maximum credit of $100 for an individual filing singly (for a $200 donation) and 200 for a married couple filing jointly (based on a $400 donation).

The Albion Community Foundation was established in 1968 to improve the quality of life for our citizens. The Foundation is a local nonprofit organization providing donors a simple, powerful and highly personal approach to giving — so their gifts do good works within the community, forever.
