ALBION, Mich. Caster Concepts has SolidWorks as its 3-D design platform and has recently added to their capabilities with Finite Element Analysis Software. FEA can virtually create and design casters, and simulate real world situations that the caster may be exposed to. This combination of software will allow CCI to cater to the special needs of their customers, address challenging situations, while reducing lead time.
FEA is software generated, numerical technique for solving various problems of mechanical and structural analysis/design. This software will allow CCI to take the model from SolidWorks and virtually test the design for a variety of dynamic situations. Dr. Elmer Lee, Director of Engineering at Caster Concepts and Conceptual Engineering stated “The use of FEA in the design and manufacturing of industrial casters isn’t something that is commonly utilized. I see the use of FEA by Caster Concepts as setting a new standard when it comes to difficult caster applications”. The program may also be used to create higher capacity casters without increasing their overall size through redesign and utilization of alternative materials. By using this software to design and manufacture casters, CCI is offering a new level of value to its customers.
