Dual wheel casters have been used for years to help reduce push and pull force and safely move heavy loads where a single wheel caster was just not enough. However, simply switching to a dual-wheel caster may still not be enough to meet your ergonomic requirements. This is where the benefits of a TWERGO® wheel come in.

With more concerns revolving around workplace safety, the most common application that utilizes the benefits of TWERGO wheels deal with push-pull measurements.  The force required to push or pull wheeled equipment is always greatest at the start. Once the cart is rolling, it typically requires less. Taking these two factors into consideration, when the starting force and rolling force exceed those that can be safely used by the operator, injuries can occur. The following chart offers a summary showing how reducing the push force reduces the chance of worker injury.

Push Force Industry Risk

70 LBS. PUSH FORCE           SAFE FOR 38% OF POPULATION       62 OUT OF 100 AT RISK FOR INJURY $$$

50 LBS. PUSH FORCE           SAFE FOR 82% OF POPULATION       18 OUT OF 100 AT RISK FOR INJURY $$

40 LBS. PUSH FORCE           SAFE FOR 90% OF POPULATION       8 OUT OF 100 AT RISK FOR INJURY   $

TWERGO caster wheels are unlike any other because of their unique tread thickness and material. They feature split aluminum wheels with a carved-out core. This set up allows for a thinner tread design and improved ergonomics due to the wheel’s uniform compression. TWERGO also utilizes a patented force-reducing technology that is designed to enable operators to start moving loads with less force. This force-reducing technology also allows operators to move loads around corners without the traditional scrubbing and sliding that other wheels might create.

For heavy-duty applications, TWERGO®  is the go-to choice with a maximum capacity of 3,500 lbs. per caster. It has the same great features of our original TWERGO wheels but is designed in a barbell configuration (the wheels on the outside of rig) enabling it to move even heavier loads. All wheels rotate independently of each other and are designed to minimize rolling resistance. The casters also have a very long tread life and are maintenance-free to extend use.

Benefits at a glance:

Parabolic Wheel Face – Achieves on average a 25% reduction in initial push force to start rolling

Precision Sealed Ball Bearing — Sealed bearings are maintenance-free to eliminate costs and extend caster life

Aluminum Wheel Core – Rust-proof core is lightweight yet durable

Independently Rotating Wheels – Reduces friction and force exerted

Case in Point

A recent application of TWERGO involved an automotive plant. The plant utilized a series of material handling carts. Each cart was moving a 3,500 lb. load with an average push/pull force of 90 lbs. This level of force put most of the employees at risk of injury.  To reduce injuries and exertion, TWERGO wheels were installed. Now, push/pull force is in the low 50s.

TWERGO Ergonomic wheels are great for AGV’s and Tuggers where high weight capacities are needed. They are reliable at higher speeds and are available in two-and three-wheel configurations.
