Twergo® Ergonomic Wheels Redefine Manual Material Handling

Updated October 10, 2023.

Short and precise movements have the greatest impact when manually moving a material handling cart; that is where Twergo® ergonomic wheels shine. Twergo ergonomic wheels reduce the effort of pushing, pulling, and turning needed, so cart operators don’t have to exert more energy and risk an overexertion injury.

These movements include pulling a cart into the tugger line or maneuvering a cart from the line to a precise spot in the work area. This pushing, pulling, and turning requires operators to exert greater energy than simply pushing directly forward.

And starting an industrial cart from a dead stop – when we exert the “initial push force” – can be the most challenging operation of all.

TWERGO® — the patented industrial caster we developed here at Caster Concepts — features a patented parabolic face and independently rotating wheels for precise and easy manual cart movement.

What Are Twergo® Wheels?

TWERGO (which stands for Twin Wheel Ergonomic) significantly reduces the forces needed to start, stop, turn, and maneuver material handling carts. It’s caster technology in action!

The independently rotating wheels on TWERGO industrial casters reduce friction by allowing the wheels to rotate in the direction and amount needed to turn and maneuver.  The parabolic face design with tapered tread design reduces the amount of force exerted to start rolling.

Key Benefits of a Twergo Wheel

  1. 55% Reduction in Starting and Turning Force*: Twergo wheels significantly reduce the force required to initiate movement and make turns. This reduction in force translates into less physical effort for operators, making loads easier to handle and maneuver.
  2. Unique Tread Thickness: Twergo wheels feature a unique tread thickness that minimizes friction. This design eliminates scrubbing and sliding when turning, ensuring a smoother and more controlled operation.
  3. Impact Resistance: Despite their reduced friction, Twergo wheels maintain the impact resistance you’d expect from standard wheels. This combination of qualities makes them ideal for various applications.
  4. Superior Tread Life: Twergo wheels are known for their exceptional tread life. They are designed to withstand the rigors of industrial use, reducing the need for frequent replacements.
  5. Maintenance-Free: Caster Concepts has engineered Twergo wheels to be virtually maintenance-free. This reduces downtime and the costs associated with regular maintenance, making them a cost-effective choice.
  6. Rust-Proof Aluminium Die-Cast Cores: The wheel hub of Twergo wheels boasts rust-proof aluminum die-cast cores, ensuring maximum strength and durability. This design choice eliminates concerns about rust-related maintenance challenges.

A new spin on caster maneuverability.

By using caster technology that utilizes multiple thinner wheels in a tandem operation, TWERGO reduces the amount of wheel-to-floor surface contact and allows each wheel to spin independently. The independent spinning functionality lets each wheel turn in the direction and amount that promotes minimal friction.

One last note – a heavy-duty industrial caster like TWERGO, which achieves reduction in force by mechanical design, is a decided advantage over other industrial wheel designs, such as balloon or donut wheels, which reduce force by rounding the ends of the tread material. While this rounded-end design achieves some reduction in force when turning, that force reduction will diminish as the tread material wears.

Therefore, the benefit achieved by these wheels is limited, whereas TWERGO®’s mechanical functionality is not. TWERGO® is built to last, with precision sealed ball bearing units, more durable tread material, and a tapered tread design.
